Man vs. Society Free Essays

Society avoids, torments, and in some cases murders individuals just in light of their religion. We may not generally observe it or hear it, however it’s there. Strict mistreatment is all over the place. We will compose a custom paper test on Man versus Society or on the other hand any comparable theme just for you Request Now It is in our schools, it is in our administration, it is engrained in our general public. Normally individuals oppress and torment the individuals who dislike them, be them Muslim, Mormon, Hindu, or even Christian. Truly, even Christians are being oppressed. We in America hear â€Å"so regularly about Muslims [being] survivors of maltreatment in the West†(Ali). In any case, what we don’t understand that there is another war. A â€Å"unrecognized war†(Ali) occurring wherever from West Africa to the Middle East to South Asia and Oceania. A war on Christians. Christians are the most abused gathering in the contemporary world. â€Å"According to the World Evangelical Alliance, more than 200 million Christians in 60 nations are denied crucial human rights exclusively on account of their faith†(Persecution of Christians). In Egypt, Christians are constrained under severe standards that don't matter to mosques and different strict foundations. For instance, under Hamayouni Decree, Christians need to experience the government so as to assemble, or even fix their structures (Persecution of Christians). In addition to the fact that Egypt restricts Christians’ capacity to assemble and look after houses of worship, yet additionally their capacity to hold positions. Christians can't hold senior government positions, conciliatory positions, be in the military, or hold showing positions (Persecution of Christians). Likewise, the Egyptian government doesn't perceive transformations from Islam to Christianity, and since between confidence relationships in the nation are unlawful, changes over can't wed individuals conceived in Christian people group, and their kids get Islamic training (Persecution of Copts). After the â€Å"Arab Spring† development, there have been significantly more records of Christian abuse. Bedouin Spring is â€Å"a progressive influx of exhibits that has been occurring in the Arab world †¦ [that is] effectively ousting their harsh governments†(Cha-cha). The oust of the legislature of Libya, the common uprisings in Bahrain, Syria, and Yemen, and the significant fights in Algeria, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Morocco, and Oman (Arab Spring) are permitting Islamic radicals to pick up force, and this is exceptionally troubling for some Christians. The Arab Spring development is likewise causing a Muslim â€Å"revival† of sorts, making them question their resistance of Christians so far. This restoration has caused various occurrences, for example, â€Å"church-burnings, assaults, mutilations, and murders†(Ali). Christians are being slaughtered in Islamic societies essentially in view of their religion. However this raises no alert. Here in the West we have no clue how severely our kindred Christians endure on account of Muslim nations. They continually live in dread that their homes will be scorched, their kids murdered, and them detained with no expectation of a reasonable preliminary. â€Å"From impiety laws to ruthless killings to bombings to mutilations and the consuming of blessed destinations, Christians in such a significant number of countries live in fear†(Ali). Christians and Muslims in Nigeria have been on the edge of common war for quite a long time. Another Islamic radical gathering called Boko Harem incites the vast majority of this activity. This association has expressed that â€Å"it will execute all Christians living in the country†(Ali). â€Å"In the long stretch of January 2012 alone, Boko Haram was liable for 54 deaths†(Ali). This is crazy! In the main month of this current year, a month with a simple 31 days, Boko Haram has just killed 54 individuals. That’s very nearly two individuals per day. Furthermore, this is just one gathering. In 2011, they murdered at any rate 510 and burned to the ground or annihilated in excess of 350 places of worship. This â€Å"Christophobia† that Africa is likewise found in Sudan, yet in a totally different structure. The Sudanese dictator government has â€Å"for decades tormented the Christian minorities in the south†(Ali). In Sudan, it isn't radical gatherings that are focusing on Christians, however the administration itself. It started in 2003, at the notorious annihilation at Darfur. From that point forward, the Muslim president, Omar al-Bashir, has been arraigned in the International Criminal Court in The Hauge of three tallies of destruction (Omar al-Bashir). Despite the fact that he conceded incomplete autonomy to south Sudan, the brutality has not finished. Christians in south Sudan are as yet dependent upon ethereal bombings, directed killings, and the abducting of kids (Ali). The UN reports that somewhere in the range of 53,000 and 75,000 blameless regular citizens have been dislodged from their homes (Ali). Not exclusively are African Christians enduring, yet additionally ones in the Middle East. Since 2003, in excess of 900 Iraqi Christians have been executed by terrorists’ activities and 70 houses of worship have been scorched in Baghdad alone. â€Å"Christians may vanish inside and out from Iraq† says the director of the U. S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (Muslim Persecution of Christians). In Iran, the legislature is making laws that make it unlawful to spread the Christian confidence to the remainder of the Iranians. They will likely â€Å"cleanse Iranian Christians†(Wahdat-Hagh), totally annihilating them from their nation. There is such a great amount of disdain from the Islamic culture that is coordinated towards Christians, and out of the blue. They torment and assault and damage and murder all Christians who are happy to support what they put stock in. What's more, what do we do? What does western human advancement do? We stand aside and permit it to occur. We deliberately ignore our siblings and sisters who are being tormented and killed for their convictions, and permit everything to go on. We know it’s occurring, yet for what reason do we stand aside? For what reason is America, the nation that was established on the principals of Christianity, the nation that was established with the end goal of break from strict oppression, standing aside and permitting individuals to be slaughtered? Is it true that we are so enveloped with things of this world, would we say we are so enveloped with economy and cash and oil that we stand aside and permit individuals to be fiercely slaughtered so we can keep our gas costs low and our kin safe? Regardless of whether we don’t all concur that Christians are correct aren't right, don’t we as a whole accept that human life is significant, and that it must be protected? We did battle with the Middle Eastern nations to battle this â€Å"War on Terror,† yet what did that achieve? Wellbeing for our own outskirts, and not even that to its fullest degree. It did nothing to help the a huge number of Christians living in dread all around the globe. So what would it be advisable for us to do? We the individuals, of the United States of America, must return to our foundations, return to the motivation behind why we came here in any case, and relinquish the entirety of our negligible contentions, with the goal that we can help the individuals who are the abused and the mistreated on account of their confidence. Analysis Of Christopher Columbus And Charles Lindbergh

Throughout the school year of 2015-2016 at the Founders Academy, I have wrote numerous essays, with generally positive results. Several of the essays exceeded expectations, while others reached expectations to a modest extent, but all of the essays were supported by the writing skills that I had learned that year, regardless of my strengths or weaknesses with these skills. These techniques vary extensively, from comparing and contrasting ideas in a text to editing and revising essays for quality results, which is proven in my writing portfolio. The first skill of note centers around the proofreading of essays, where an essay receives revisions, from the reconstruction of paragraphs to the replacement of disinteresting words with intriguing, more complicated vocabulary. My proof of mastery in this skill is in my essay on Christopher Columbus and Charles Lindbergh, in addition to my reflection on a project that I had worked on in my technology class, where I placed complex vocabulary into the essays with my portfolio draft. My strengths in the skill were that I paid close attention to detail, and added in excessively complex words to entice the reader. My major flaw, however, is that the process of replacing words is time-consuming, which gives me less time to focus on other issues in my essays, which were often longer than they needed to be. Fortunately, the constant expansion of essays doubles as a skill, especially when adding further information to short essays.

Notes On Theories Of Mass Communications Essays -

Notes On Theories Of Mass Communications Essay 1 - GSC2411 (Theories of Mass Communication unit, Monash University, Australia) This is NOT an essay - it is a collection of notes which are the foundation of an 800 word comparison of two articles regarding the place of humanities in university studies, and the roles of mass communication. Part 1 (800 words - 30%) You will be given two short readings by the end of Week 3 of the Semester. Identify the approach or approaches used in each, and with reference to the features and examples of the identified approaches as presented in Subject materials, justify your answer. Andrew Riemer's article, Cannon or Fodder? (The Weekend Australian, 16-17 November 1996) can be identified as having both Idealist and Leavisite approaches within the text. This is indicated in several passages of the text: My colleagues in the Department of English were irresponsible? They were trivialising the discipline?by allowing undergraduates to sidestep the so-called canonical writers?in favour of whatever transient phenomenon or writer of small talent happened to be their latest obsession. They were reprehensible ? in encouraging their students to impose simple sub-Marxist, sub-feminist templates on complex and mysterious works of literature ? Milton's Eve reduced to a mere victim of the patriarchy. Alluring though it might be, we cannot recover intellectual integrity by turning back the clock. Cannon or Fodder? (The Weekend Australian, 16-17 November 1996) When looking at the approaches as they are presented in the Subject Materials, one is able to identify them as clearly being both Idealistic and Leavisite. Our Subject Book indicates that the Idealistic view of culture has been conceived in the humanities and in journalism and popular social commentary ? a realm of moral, spiritual and aesthetic values which exist largely independent and above society. Further, this view states Culture was isolated from society - autonomous because it had to be abstracted from one way of life (pre-industrial) and then transmitted and extended to another (allegedly inferior) way of life to 'save' that society. The Leavisite concept of culture is still common and is firmly bound up in the theory of mass society and mass culture. Mass communications are seen to hold a crucial and privileged place in mass society, taking over the role of creating and distributing the values and information common to a society. Mass culture, unlike high culture, is unable to transcend its time and place and offer any kind of lasting truth to its audiences and, at worst, positively damages them. Critics of Leavis have questioned the narrowing of 'culture' to literature. ?idealist concept of culture, synonymous with 'high' culture, it carries with it its implied opposite - the denigrated 'mass' culture. ?a central assumption of the approach is that there exists a natural hierarchy of high culture and mass culture. This is how the idealist approach deals with differences. Media vs. Humanities Simon During The Australian Identified approaches: materialist/Frankfurt School The mainstream perception ? is that universities produce and teach truth through research ? while the media produce and communicate quickly consumable information and opinion. The weird, ill-judged consensus that the culture is dumbing down, which the media itself has helped to forge, is an important expression of this belief assuming as it does that the media breeds stupidity. ?the notion that the media is shallow and deals in opinion while the universities deal in depth and truth is misguided (though by no means simply false). The media are in unacknowledged competition with the humanities. ?in the interest of truth rather than ideology, they have also undercut the western classics claim on transcendental value to which the mainstream still genuflects. The humanities' old ethical project has been marginalised first by the democratisation of cultural and media consumption, second by the commercialisation of leisure pursuits, and last, by the segmentation of culture into market niches. Reader The central materialist assumption is that it is the material conditions of physical, historical and social being or existence which determine what counts as consciousness. Marx and Engels argued ? that social problems were political and needed solutions that put social interests ahead of private interests. in direct opposition to idealism The Frankfurt School's critical theory, as it is known, consisted of investigations into sociology, ideology and philosophy in which their aim was a Marxist analysis of contemporary society.

Bulling Essays

Bulling Essays Bulling Essay Bulling Essay Bulling BY sveta666 Some people say that bullying is only reason why children do not want to go to school. However others think that there are much more causes why pupils try to escape from schools. This essay will examine you some reasons of bulling and another reasons why kids dont want to attend schools. There are some forms of bulling which are more widespread nowadays. The first reason why the schools have the most bullies and victims of such incidents is because of how the kids are raised today. Therefore children who are raised in an unhealthy environment, kids who dont spend enough time with their parents can row up not knowing how to be socially accepted. Many bullies threaten their victims with a beating if the dont do as they say. About 160,000 children skip school every day for fear of being assaulted and bullied. Furthermore some strong children like to show their power and dominate the others, because they have an inferiority complex or some personal unhappiness. Actually, there are many other reasons why children are showing reluctance to attend schools. For examples, the major part of modern generation are very lazy today. They prefer to stay at home to go to school. Although many teachers do not have a way with children. They are often unjust of kids and take strong measures to them. Moreover our schools dont provide interesting and educational teaching for pupils. Children hate school because in school they are not free , they sometimes are bored and distracted on the lessons. In conclusion, I would like to say that it is necessary for schools implement a comprehensive anti-bullying program. We should pay more attention to our children and coordinated with their interests. They have a right to enjoy their schooldays. Sveta Zaichkina

Mock solution satire on the war on terror Essay

Mock solution satire on the war on terror - Essay Example So what do we do to fight the war on terror? For sure we cannot exorcise it away and just when we thought that by killing Osama Bin Laden will also kill the problem away, lo and behold, we got another bang in Boston. So killing to end killing obviously did not work and we are still wondering what will end terror. I have a solution. Its simpler, effective and does not involve killing. How about America sharing its fun with the radicals? I believe this will work because it addresses the common factor that is present among terrorists – that is being lonely or not having fun and not necessarily the stereotype that they have to come from Middle East. That was proven with the latest terror attack in Boston where the bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev had been complaining that he did not understand Americans and became lonely despite being an American Green Card Holder. Its the lack of fun that drives people nuts to become radicals and terrorize people. Remember when you are still a kid? Fo yo u remember how much you envied to the point of spite that friend of yours who had the latest bling or been considered as cool to have the attention of everybody while you were empty handed and ignored? Folks, in societies version, America is that friend who has all the fun and all the blings and coolest kid in town and she does not want to share it. So the envious neighbor thougth that since what America have cannot be had and they are hopeless in their miserable lot, they might as well inflict misery on the coolest kid on the town to keep them company. Their clerics made it easier by providing incentives of giving them seven virgins in that place yonder which in no way they could ever have in this lifetime. Call it gullible, but when you are in slum, barely eat three times a day and uneducated without any clear prospect of the future, the prize of a virgin is more than enough for a motivation. These explain why jihadist will never run out of supply and in fact the line is long for those who are itching to have their share of virgins. Boy, I wonder if heaven has a factory of virgins considering the number of people who cannot wait for their share. We can kill and kill but the number of those who are willing to die for seven virgins are just overwheliming. I think America should do a propaganda work that all virgins in heavens are already taken to remove the incentive of the extremists. Fighting terror with sophisticated arms and infantry is a band aid approach because the real cause is not addressed. We should ceased to be that selfish kid on the block who has all the fun and all the toys. As a solution, why not share the fun with the rest of the world especially in those areas where extremist resides? When everybody is partying and having fun on this planet in this lifetime then the prospect of seven virgins in heaven will eventually lose its appeal because there is no longer an incentive to be exremist. Fun is already guranteed and happening here, so why wai t to die to have your turn for fun? For all you know, heaven might have run out of virgins considering the huge number of those who already killed themselves for virgins. The trouble with the world is that there are just a lot of lonely men out there. Terror is just a projection, a sort of outlet of the root cause of the problem which is really utter lack of fun. If only we will export

Youth and drugs Research Proposal Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Youth and drugs - Research Proposal Example health, how education institution can influence this trend, and what addicted persons can do to get help, which gender is the most vulnerable, and many other questions. In order to get an answer to these questions it is necessary for a research to be carried out. This is a research proposal for a research on youth and drugs. Youth and drugs is not a new thing, as it has been mentioned and studied a number of times before by other researchers. However, it should be noted that there have always been a difference in findings in these studies. Furthermore, most of these researches focus on specific aspects or questions relating to youth and drugs. This makes it easier to carry out a research on this topic because of the fact that there are relevant findings that had already been availed in the reports written after the various studies and researches were carried out by different people with different perspectives and missions. It should be noted that drug abuse among the youth is a social, health, and economic concern. This is because it can hinder the performance of the youth who form a significant part of the total population of human beings globally. This implies that it is a problem that in many occasions has been undermined, but should be looked into with the seriousness that it deserves. Michelle Miller†Day looked at the role of parenting strategies on late adolescent and drug abuse. She asserts that the strategies used in talking to the youth about drugs sometimes are effective because parents do not want to be straight about the issue. Vardakou, Pistos, and Spiliopoulou assert that the use of the internet by the youth can be said to one of the factors that lead to the high rates of drug abuse among the youth. Duff (2003) carried out a research on the contribution of the youth culture to the rate of drug abuse in Australia. They found out that the youth culture was a significant contributor to drug abuse among the youth in Australia. Wilens and Biederman

Thermodynamics Paper Essay Example for Free

Thermodynamics Paper Essay Thermodynamics is a branch of physics that studies the effects of changes in temperature, pressure, and volume on physical systems at the macroscopic scale by analyzing the collective motion of their particles using statistics. The term thermodynamics was coined by James Joule in 1858 to designate the science of relations between heat and power. The starting point for most thermodynamic considerations are the laws of thermodynamics, which postulate that energy can be exchanged between physical systems as heat or   work.   They also postulate the existence of a quantity named entrope, which can be defined for any system. In thermodynamics, there are four laws of very general validity, and as such they do not depend on the details of the interactions or the systems being studied. They are: zeroth law of thermodynamics, stating that thermodynamic equilibrium is an equivalence relation; first law of thermodynamics, about the conservation of energy; second law of thermodynamics, about entropy; third law of thermodynamics, about absolute zero temperature. An important concept in thermodynamics is the system. A system is the region of the universe under study. A system is separated from the remainder of the universe by a boundary which may be imaginary or not, but which by convention delimits a finite volume. The possible exchanges of work, heat, or matter between the system and the surroundings take place across this boundary. There are five dominant classes of systems: Isolated Systems, Adiabatic Systems, Diathermic Systems, Closed Systems, Open Systems. Thermodynamics describes how systems respond to changes in their surroundings. This can be applied to a wide variety of topics in science and engineering, such as engines, phase transitions, chemical reactions, transport phenomena, and even black holes. The results of thermodynamics are essential for other fields of physics and for chemistry, engineering, cell biology and material science.

Financial perspective Essay

As seen balanced scorecards does not totally disregard financial measures of performance. Thus, timely and accurate data is essential to the successful implementation of balanced scorecard. This implies that handling and processing of financial data should be swift and centralize perhaps fully automated. The financial data should be integrated with corporate databases and especially data regarding risk assessment and cost benefit analysis (Stewart, 2000). Learning and growth perspective This category recognizes that people are the only repositions of knowledge i. e. people posses intangible assets of the company. In this information age intelligence is the heart of organization success and hence Ned to ensure continuous learning through employee training. This is because technology changes rapidly as aloes people exiting an organization for greener pastures. (Lipe & Salterio, 2000) As a result, corporations’ culture and attitude need to be shaped to ensure that people within the organization pursue self-improvement and reverse brain drain to other companies. The cost of recruitment and training people is usually high and measures of allocating the funds to reap maximum benefits need to be developed. Knowledge sharing is equally important. Notably not all training translates to learning but the most effective learning occurs, using mentors and group discussions and communication within the organization. Intranets may contribute towards facilitating communication and learning (Norton, 2001) Process perspective This category identifies two kinds of process within the business one, the mission oriented processes and two the support process. Support processes are repetitive in nature and nature and hence easier to measure on the other hand mission oriented involve government offices and hence difficult to measure. Attention to these perspectives enables managers to know how well the operations of the business are and whether they are in tandem with customer requirements and expectations. (Kaplan & Norton, 1996) Problems associated with financial measures. The move to adopt the balanced scorecard at Intel has been triggered by the inefficiency of financial measures to link corporate strategy and goals to measurement it ahs been difficult for Intel to link the strategies used in say marketing and advertising campaigns to the effects or anticipated results. Thus a shortfall in gauging performance has been experienced.. As pointed out, Intel faces strong competition from Microsoft and there has been to re-strategize its operations in order to gain competitive advantage and adopt with the changing technology. The previously used financial measures are outdated as the PC industry how shifted from the industrial age to become more knowledge based. White previously, Intel management of the company’s property equipments and plant was adequate to accord the company competitive edge, now a days the intangible asset i. e. the employee’s knowledge plays a great role in ensuring that Intel stays ahead of its game. The company’s income statements, and balance sheets are still used to capture revenues and profits but they still account very little to the company’s market value hence the need for balance scorecard. The balanced scorecard becomes handy for Intel to link its strategy i. e. deploying its intangible assets to the company’s goal i. e. dominate the PC industry. The problem of financial measures utilized at Intel is its failure to measure how effective customer relationship operating process product innovation skill of the workforce culture and other variables are in contributing to the company’s goal of maintaining lead in the PC industry. The financial measures i. e. balance sheets and incomes statements fail to assist management describe its asset and link it to strategy and goal. The pitfall of this measure is that without a clear description of the situation and the company’s possessions in terms of assets then it is difficult to know what to manage or measure. Recommended design and implementation of Intel’s balance scorecard Intel balance scorecard design will incorporate strategy aimed at increasing the company’s revenues by twenty percent in a period of 18 months. In order to do so the balance scorecard components will be used in designing the strategy. The invaluable contribution of the employees at Intel is recognized in this design. They contribute indirectly to the company’s revenue investment in the employees will improve their functional competence and hence lead to better quality products and innovations hence greater customer satisfaction. This satisfaction in turn will translate to higher sales and thus increase in revenue and profit margins. Rewards systems for hardworking employees will be given in form of cash incentives and recognition awards. More importantly, dead wood employees will not be retained in the company, as they are liabilities to the company. The workplace culture and climate will also be representative of the company’s goal; hence performance appraisals will also be used to boost hard work. The no-office policy at Intel will be retained in order to ensure equality among the company’s employees. Communication and knowledge sharing will be boosted by upping Intel intranets and using monthly meetings in departments to achieve this end. Intel will have to upgrade its internal processes to improve its customers and shareholders satisfactions hence achieve revenue. The way to do this will be by availing its microprocessors speedily to its customer’s at the time when needed. Intel will need to keep track of releases of operating systems by software hence increase sales and revenues. Intel should also develop new products and services that are relevant to meeting customers’ wants and needs. Perhaps, there is need to identify new markets in order to broaden its customers base also promote satisfaction among customers. Grievances and complaints will handle with immediacy and accuracy. Additionally, Total quality management and zero tolerance production techniques will be used in its manufacturing plant to ensure that consignment delivered to customers have zero defects. Intel will also ensure that it exercises social responsibility and that its activities benefit the greater society and don’t harm the immediate environment. The customers’ perspectives components of Intel balance scorecard will work towards creating a image of value and distinction in its customers. Intel will achieve this by incorporating a mix of different products and service that uniquely identify the customers to the company. Intel will sustain intimacy with its customers by being a representative of the customers’ diverse traits. It will ensure indiscriminate customers service to customers regardless of race, gender or religion its branding and advertisement campaigns will be acceptable to the customers. Intel will employ competitive pricing to attract and retain customers. At the same time Intel will assure great performance and auxiliary features in its products so that customers get value for their money, hence boost revenue. Delivery lead times will equally be reduced by half in order to encourage customers to buy more from them. The financial position of Intel will be influenced by the effects o customer’s internal process and the learning perspectives of the company’s workforce. Ultimately, if the positive changes on these sections are effected then the company will realize profitability and increased revenues. In effect, the company’s value in the eye of the shareholder will also improve, more to that; an increase in company assets value will be evident.

The New Jim Crow Mass Incarceration - 1361 Words

Book Review Michelle Alexander, The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness The premise of the ‘The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness’ by Michelle Alexander, is to refute claims that racism is dead and argue that the War on Drugs and the federal drug policy unfairly targets communities of color, keeping a large majority of black men of varying ages in a cycle of poverty and behind bars. The author proves that racism thrives by highlighting the African Americans reality as it is today. Virtually in many states, convicted felons cannot vote resulting in an extraordinary amount of African Americans barred from voting. A large number of blacks have served time in prison as a result of†¦show more content†¦It is a known fact that the Civil Rights struggles of the late 1950s and early 1960s apparently ended the Jim Crow era after the passing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and as well as the Voting Rights Act of 1965. The book illustrates, on the other hand, that the racial caste system has not finished; it has essentially been overhauled. Nothing gets more consideration in the current educational discussion than the subject of how to evaluate what students learn – an assessment that depends fundamentally on how said students are being taught. Michelle Alexander’s, ‘The New Jim Crow†¦Ã¢â‚¬â„¢ is best taught to high school students in a U.S. History survey class by using a colloquium approach requiring them to read, think and discuss. Said approach is ideal because it fosters intellectual curiosity and intellectual freedom. This should not be a course in which a lecture is given requiring the audience to listen. It is a course in which one takes an interest effectively in the discourse of inquiries that are vital. Common to all colloquium courses this class must include intensive writing, a huge extent of artistic writings, much class discussion, research, a sensible expansiveness of substance, and adaptability for understudy creativity. Under the guidance and direction of the teacher, the students should grapple aloud with the ideas they’ve read. They learn to form arguments and support them with facts; they learn to communicate coherently and
